I finally had the chance to watch ‘The September Issue‘ and I loved every minute of it. It was exactly like the film/story ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, but amazingly better as this is real-life behind-the-scenes of the iconic magazine. I drooled over the fashion, the magazine page board, the ‘book’, everything. I also loved the many appearances of Canadian model Coco Rocha – one of my favourites! God, how I’d love to work in that office for at least one day. It’s completely different than my little magazine office job.

Time To Knock Out Shine

When it comes to getting my nails ‘did. I’m pretty simple with them. I’m fortunate to be able to grow my nails long, so usually they are just au natural. I do however like to get pampered, so mani/pedi’s are always in order - not only do I love the massage’s and the cuticle clean up, but the perfect application of polish is a treat, since I can never apply colour on so great myself. Now all the colours that have been available to me have been your usual shine coat, and even though I’ve been hearing about the trend of ‘matte’ nail polish, I had never actually seen it .. that is until today.

Randomly, Aritzia is one of the exclusive stockists (Henri Bendel and Kitson in the states are the others) to carry the ‘flatte’ nail polish line by Knock Out. It goes on with a liquid shine and quickly dries to a matte finish. Although I tested all eight colours that are available so far, I came home with Powder (aka white) and Calamine (aka light pink). The Flatte Black was great, but you definitely need short nails for that, as the shade on long nails looks like you’re ready to dress as a witch for Halloween. But for those sporting black nail polish these days, I highly suggest you switch to matte. Yes, it’s almost like a chalkboard on your fingers….

In case you haven’t heard, Foursquare is the newest time-wasting but fun application to hit Vancouver. The company describes it as this:

“Think: 50% friend-finder, 30% social cityguide, 20% nightlife game. We wanted to build something that not only helps you keep up with your friends, but exposes you to new things in and challenges you to explore cities in different ways.”

In a nutshell…whenever you go to a place that you want people to know you are at, like a coffee shop, restaurant, or nightclub, you “check-in” via your phone, updating everyone with the name and address of the place you are at. Pretty simple.

For instance, this morning, I went to Shoppers on Broadway, and thought I would try out this Foursquare thing. I only have one friend on it at the moment (LittleMissN) because it only launched in Vancouver on Wednesday Sept 9th and no one really knows about it, hence this post…Anyways, I “checked-in” that I was at Shoppers, and 2 seconds later my cell rang, and LittleMissN said “Hey you’re at Shoppers! Can you pick me up a curling iron??” I said “WTF, how did you know that?”, and she said, “Foursqaure just notified me!” Easy as 1, 2, 3.

So its pretty convenient in some ways, also a little stalker-enabling, but what isn’t these days, Twitter is almost as bad.

As I sit here writing this I am listening to a little light Piano Jazz at this great little coffee shop on Broadway and Ash called Elysian Coffee, which I have also “Foursquared” that I am at. Its a great place, very “Main St”, but on Broadway which is my new hood, so I’m happy to have something funky around. Free Wireless, great coffee and cool staff. What more can a girl ask for.

Back to Foursqare. Get with the program people. Its the new Obsession. And I need more than one friend to stalk.

Lady Gaga x Hello Kitty

Again, it’s no secret that I am a fan of the iconic Hello Kitty … and now I just might be a fan of Lady Gaga. Although I don’t listen to her music, I definitely appreciate her style. She has fun with fashion. Loves it.

Celebrating the 35th anniversary of Hello Kitty, Lady Gaga has done a photoshoot where her five images will be one of the key art pieces in the exhibit held in NY and LA this October.

Here’s Lady Gaga dressed lolita style with inspiration from Hello Kitty in Japan.

It seems that every Vancouver blog and fashion lover loves dace. I especially love this dace spring/summer 2010 video that has been released for a week now (sorry for the post delay!). Not only is it the French love beauty song, but it is also the soft cinematography by NOBASURA’S, Andre Pinces, that melts my heart.

Hello Kitty x New Era

It’s no secret that I have a slight obsession with the iconic Hello Kitty image – take my kitchen for example, tricked out Hello Kitty theme. Real talk. So of course I’m loving these New Era caps. Although, I don’t think I have enough swagger to pull them off, I still appreciate the collaboration.

The Square Project

When it comes to recycling and living green I try my best to be an advocate and do so. When it comes to ‘green’ apparel, style usually conflicts with this (I do although own a few bamboo t-shirts which are so soft and amazing). The Square Project however is a sustainable clothing line that I have just caught on to and is now on my radar.

The Square Project is the first clothing line as part of Study NY, a creative collective which is lead by New York based eco fashion designer, Tara St James. Originally from Montreal and formerly the creative director of Covet, Tara also produces within the collective jewelry, graphic design, photography, music, video and fine art all with the ethos of sustainable production. They aim to use recycled and organic materials as much as possible, while leaving as little a carbon footprint as is manageable.

The Square Project is a study of shapes in relation to the human form – starting with the square and will launch at New York Fashion Week in September as part of The Green Shows.

Here is an endearing video that was made in support of receiving sponsorship for The Square Project to make it to New York Fashion Week. Having worked with a designer for last seasons Toronto Fashion Week, I can appreciate this delightful outreach.

Also worth checking out are some of Tara’s accessories. I love this fringe necklace!
